The course has changed substantially and it’s on road, with many reviews posted, so I’m skipping logistical details.
My first two marathons at home were not as fast as I’d hoped. For two consecutive years, we had record breaking heat on marathon day and the third year was no exception. Rock & roll decided to shut down an out and back portion of the course at mile 17ish because they had too little water for runners at the aid station turnaround. This left thousands of us suddenly at mile 20ish with 6 miles to go and no way to finish a marathon. I wanted to capitalize on my training and knew I would be working near St. Louis for a couple of months. This had been my first half a few years before so logistics were easy and after 2 marathon finishes, I wasn’t as worried about racing far from home. 30 minute PR.
